OWH #205A

LOL!!  Well, I decided to start my resolution early and make a fall/Thanksgiving card with the sketch.   I need to check my cutter (or my eyesight), cause I swear I measured it correctly, but for some reason I ended up with a little white area between the pieces.

This is old Stampin Up designer paper, that I love.  I have one sheet of it and I treasure it.  Crazy how we feel that way about paper, isn't it?  Oh, and I used some  Core'dination paper with an embossing  folder and sanded paper for the first time!!  I think I like the look and need to play around a little more with this technique.

Here is the sketch (again)

and my card

Again, have a safe and happy evening.... and of course, here is hoping that 2014 is our best year ever!

OWH #205

Crazy how time flies!! I can't believe how long it has been that I have posted something for a sketch! Now that the holidays are winding down (including the pressure for cards), I hope I can play along with the sketches.

As I mentioned on one of my Facebook posts, I'm trying to figure out a way to "maximize" my creativity.  I came up with the idea of taking a sketch like this, and making one card for each category.  So I can check off the "Thinking of You" card for this sketch, but need to make one for Birthday, Love, Halloween, Thanksgiving etc.  I'm not good at math, so I have no idea how many cards that would make BUT I think it will be my challenge, knowing that it will be hard to do, but I have to start someplace. So I can have fun with the sketches and get my cards done!!

Here is the sketch

And my submission for the challenge!!

Recognize the sentiment stamp!?? Yes it is one of the OWH (Hero Arts) sets I picked up at Michael's awhile ago.   The designer paper is all from a paper pack MME (My Mind's Eye) "Breeze".  Another find at "Mike's" awhile back and a 40% coupon made it "sweet"!!

Happy New Year to everyone!!

Operation Write Home World Card Making Day 2013 Bloghop

Who knew there was such a day!!  Card makers do!!!

We were asked to make a thank you based on one of the OWH sketches.  Did you know that OWH is one of the few blogs that has measurements with their sketches! It's perfect for someone like me who is challenged when it comes to sketches.

My card is based on this sketch

I used a little artistic license and did not use the 2.75 x .7 square, but used instead a punch combination from Stampin Up!

Here is the result

Supplies used:

Stampin Up!

OWH Sketch #192

It has been awhile since I have been able to create AND post a card but decided to do so this weekend.  I am going to take part in the World Card Making Day bloghop for Operation Write Home so I needed to work on getting that completed and scheduled for the weekend.

It is also raining here in Central Indiana, a much needed rain, so what better thing to do then create a card or two! Here is the info regarding the bloghop, I'm sure it will be a busy day with lots of great ideas, cards and probably some prizes too!!

But let's get to the Sunday Sketch Challenge!

Here is sketch #192

and my submission for this sketch.  The stamp is from Hero Arts and the sentiment is from a Stampin Up set.

I used an embossing folder for the strip on the side and also used Glossy Accents on the colored portion of the image, although you can't really tell it.

I love the sketches from OWH because they give you the sizes, I don't have to try and guess or think about it.

Enjoy your week and I hope that you are able to check out the bloghop this coming weekend for World Card Making Day.

Labor Day Weekend Virtual Party Challenge #4

This long weekend is a Virtual Cardmaking party at OWH (Operation Write Home).  I'm so far behind on the challenges, but hope to get caught up at some point... I'm coming in on challenge # 5 using this sketch:

The challenge is to use this sketch for a love card

and here is my submission... I flipped the card

this is a Penny Black stamp (Brimming with Love).   I used designer pager from Cosmo Cricket "Tea for Two" and also Rose Red paper from Stampin Up!.  The sentiment is from My Favorite Things and I used one of the die-namics from MFT to cut the sentiment and then mat it.

I colored the image with my Copic markers... probably should have gotten a closer shot....

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!!

Happy Stamping!!

OWH Sketch #186

Wow, it's been awhile since I have posted.  Things have been busy at work and then with my family.  My mom has been in an assisted living place for a month now and seems to be adjusting very well.  In fact, our twice a week phone calls are sometimes delayed because when I call she is "out and about" with her friends.  I'm feeling so much better about moving her there.  It was rough, but she seems to enjoy the food and having people around here on a regular basis.

So on to the sketch!!    Here is the sketch

and my submission, I tried to keep the 2.75 x 2.25 on the simple side, I think I accomplished that!

Have a great week and I hope to get back to participating in OWH sketches and other activities!

OWH Sketch Challenge #181

It's been awhile since I've posted, I have been busy making cards as well as trying situate  my 92 year old mother in an assisted living facility.  She didn't go quite "kicking and screaming" but screaming and crying.... which I have to say is very difficult to stay the course when you know that it is for their safety and well being.   My mother is stubborn and despite the attempt to show her how to use the "call button" for assistance at 3 am to use the bathroom (or anytime for that matter), she took a tumble and is spending the night at hospital for observation. I'm sure the facility will now put out the big guns (sensors on the bed) to  make sure that they know she is attempting to get out of bed.

So anyway, my card making has been a nice diversion, and I have tried to work on the holiday themed cards to get my box done early.

Here is the sketch for OWH #181

And my submission

I apologize for the "crookedness" of this card.  The designer paper is Bo Bunny Apple Cider Collection.  I'm sure this is old, but I will call it "vintage" designer paper.  The turkey and the sentiment are both from the Hero Arts, I found a place that had it for sale just so you can see what other images are in this set, find it here

I may add the gobble gobble on there someplace, but that is the basic sketch...

Have a great week!

OWH Sketch Challenge #179

Happy July!  I can't believe how the time is flying.  I had a great weekend making cards.  My hubby worked all weekend, so I spent my time working on Thanksgiving cards!!  Yup, my Halloween are done, so I want to get a box off soon and wanted to include Thanksgiving.

So here is the sketch challenge

and here is my submission

After taking the picture, I realized that I should have made the sentiment on a different color than I did. It kinda blended into the paper, not quite what I had planned.

The stamp is "Sweet Herbs" an ancient (obvioulsy retired) set from Stampin Up!  The paper (plain cardstock) is Stampin Up!  The designer paper is Cosmo Cricket from the "Earth Love" 6x6 pad.   Notice the little dots in the left hand corner? Those are new "candy" dots from SU!  I think I'm in love with them.  I will need to get all the colors.

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. My husband and I have a tradition of watching  the movie 1776.  It's a great musical about our founding fathers.  It's a very fun movie.   If you have a chance rent the movie. I hope you like it as much as we do!

Have a happy and safe 4th of July!!  God Bless America!!!

Color Throwdown #247

I saw these colors and just had to participate plus there is/was another challenge that I wanted to do for OWH (Operation Write Home) that involved a water challenge.
So for starters, here is the color challenge information:

and here is my submission which unfortunately is too late, but oh well!! .  I just love the patriotic colors.

the stamp is from MFT (My Favorite Things) (Flopsey Smooth Sailing) and of course the paper is all SU including the water (note to self: by a "wave" die) which is SU Bashful Blue. The inside I simply stamp "count the waves" (to answer the statement on the front "If You Want to Know How Much I Love You".

As I mentioned earlier this card is for OWH challenge, Our Daily Bread June Challenge (for details click on this link and I also used Sketch 74 from OWH, and here is that sketch.

So, two posts in one day from me is pretty crazy..... but I have been behind a little in my card making!!

Have a great day!

Joanie

OWH Sketch Challenge #178

Time sure is flying isn't it?   June is almost over and the 4th of July holiday is just around the corner.

Here is the sketch challenge details

Here is my submission for Sketch Challenge #178, I flipped the card, to make it work with the sentiment I wanted to use.  I have had this Taylored Expression sentiment for quite sometime and decided to use it for this challenge.

The designer paper is all from a 12x12 pad from Michael's (Recollections) have no idea how old it is... my guess is that it is ... old... LOL

OWH Sketch Challenge #177

Phew, it's been awhile since I participated in anything, I think the Memorial Day bloghop was the last time. It feels good to get back and do some card making! This is the sketch!

and here is my submission.  I didn't put a sentiment on the front, I plan to make this a birthday card and just have a simple phrase on the inside.

The paper (designer) is My Mind's eye and the rest of the paper is Bazzil. The image is Stampin Up! Sail Away.

I hope to get back into this on a more regular basis!

Have a great week!

OWH Memorial Day Blog Hop!!

Welcome to my blog in celebration of Memorial Day AND the Bloghop for Operation Write Home.

First of all... Happy Memorial Day! I hope you are enjoying your weekend so far.  I, on the other hand will be getting ready for a trip to DC for work.  I actually leave on Memorial Day. I hope to have some time to visit the WWII memorial.  I have someone going with me and she also wants to go so I think we will have time to accomplish the side trip.

Because I had several weeks to prepare for this, I have a couple of cards for this blog hop.  The challenge is/was thank you cards using one of the OWH sketches. They are simple cards from this simple sketch.

This is sketch #9

And my version of it, very simple, just like the sketch

Then another rendition of sketch #9

with the exception of the paper(s) the stamps are Stampin Up!

And for my Any Hero card...... no sketch..... just a card..

Have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend..... enjoy the OWH blog hop!!

Midweek Throwdown May 22 2013

It's been awhile since I've done anything.  Things have been busy the last few weeks.  I had to finish up a blog I did for my great-nephew (for Flat Stanley) and work has been busy.  I also have been trying to work on my blog post for Memorial Day.

But here is my submission for the mid-week throwdown.

This is a Stampin Up punch (Posey Punch).

Not much of a card.... but I wanted to do something.  I used a different camera too..... and not familiar with the settings.

Catch some of you over the weekend on the Memorial Day Blog Hop

OWH Sketch #169 & (pre) Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!  I am a little early since it is Sunday, but I wanted to do a card for Earth Day and wanted to do this sketch challenge.

I spent the weekend going through my designer paper (DP) and realized that I have so much.  I organized it (thanks Joann's for a 50% off sale) by stripes, flowers, solids and "other patterns".  I know that I will never have a nice craft studio like Sandy from OWH (I'd rather redo my kitchen) but I'm thankful that I have a room of my own for my crafting/office.

This stamp set was a spur of the moment purchase and is the first time I have inked it up.  I need to spend some time surfing finding other example of what people have done with this set.  I'm sure we all have had that coupon that you just had to use and ended up buying something.... and this was the stamp set... I think I just need some inspiration from others.

Anyhoo, here is the card for Earth Day and OWH Challenge #169!

I hope all of you have a great Earth Day and enjoy some of the freebies that stores will be offering

Midweek Throwdown (Bugs Life) and OWH Sketch Challenge #168

Time has been flying by and I just finally got around to checking out the sketch challenge and there was the Midweek Throwdown!

So I decided to combine the two with one card...

All the plain cardstock is retiring or retired Stampin Up! paper and I'm not sure about the designer paper.

Have a great week!

Midweek Throwdown Color Challenge

This week's challenge is to make a card with your favorite colors.  Even before discovering OWH my favorite colors were red, white and blue.  I love patriotic napkins, plates etc.   I think some of it stems from my dad being a WWII vet, and my brother having served as well.  During the Vietnam war I had a POW bracelet and was thrilled to get a letter from "my" soldier when he got home. (note to self, find the letter and scan to share).    I am offended when I see the flag not being displayed properly, so you can say I do love the red, white and blue...

So here is my card, this a pretty much a copy of a card I saw on Pinterest (or maybe it was Splitcoast) either way this is not my idea... but I had the stamp and similar paper and decided to make it.

Now having looked at it.... I'm going to have to change it around and make it be "correct", so I will correct it (the flag position) and try to post the right one this weekend.

Enjoy the rest of the week!

OWH Sketch #167

Details of the sketch are here

And my submission

This did not turn out near what I had planned.... it will do.... I need a few more Copic markers to do "water" or do what I had seen done before and that is cut blue out to make the waves, maybe I will do that on a future card.

I like this stamp set along with many others that I have.......I need to take a day or two off work and try to play around with my stamp sets.  I don't have enough time in the evenings and weekends to play like I like to.

I was hopping along on some of my favorite blogs and ran across one that was going out of business and couldn't resist stamps for $2 like this one.  It is actually Bugaboo (a great digital place) but offered some of the images in rubber/clear.  What a shame, cause although I like digital images, sometimes it is nice to have a stamp (wood/rubber/clear).

Anyhoo, I bought several at $2 and will make a couple of cards and post them here.

Have a great week!!

OWH Midweek Throwdown Tags and Twine

When I make up my mind to do a challenge like this, I realize that I don't have the right color(s) of twine.  Awhile back I bought some Martha Stewart twine on sale at either Michael's or Joann's, it seemed like a good deal at the time. Now I realize that it isn't that great and I should have held out for higher quality...... like the Twinery which is really great stuff.

So this week I decided to participate in the OWH Midweek Throwdown, find the details here

Here is my submission for the challenge

The paper is all from a clearance 6x6 pad from MME (My Minds Eye) Lost and Found/Sunshine pad.  I bought several of them because they were dirt cheat at Michael's.  I can't resist those types of sales.

The flower is a Spellbinder's die as well as the label and then you can see the black and white twine from The Twinery....

I made this fairly quickly and will probably distress the sentiment, but I'm happy with the limited time I had to do it.

OWH Sketch Challenge #166

Another fabulous sketch from OWH, find it here and my submission for this

The picture is not the best, but it will do, maybe someday I will get a new camera...

This is using Lawn Fawn set you can buy it here these are fabulous stamps.  I have several sets!   I'm also entering this card into the Lawnscaping Challenge located here  You needed to do embossing and this card has it, just very hard to see it because I did it on the black, but here is a close up of the dots. In retrospect I should have done it a little more noticeable.   Oh well!

I may have to do another submission do the Lawnscaping challenge

Have a great week!

OWH Sketch #165 - updated

What a crazy few weeks this has been.  A couple of projects at work kept me busy and then trying to get income taxes completed sure occupied my time..... and then of course making cards for OWH.  I sent a box to Kris that completed Mother/Father's Day, so I'm good for a little while on "holiday" deadlines.

Looking at deadlines for OWH, I decided to get a little preface for Halloween.  As I write this, snow is starting to fall here in the Indianapolis (IN) area.  The predictions are up to 8 inches, the way it is coming down, I have a feeling they may have gotten this one right....

So here is my submission for the sketch, I had wanted to put "googlie eyes" on this little guy, but for the life of me, I can't find them.  So, if I find them I'll add them and update the picture.

I hope everyone has a great week!  For those of you getting this winter storm, stay safe!

** here is the googly/wiggle eyes.... Hobby Lobby had an entire section of them with difference sizes.  Of course, I had to buy a couple of sizes... just in case I needed a different size in the future. These may be a little big, so I did buy a smaller size, but since this was the first one, I will adjust the size in the future.

OWH Sketch #162

Another sketch from OWH, find it here

Here is my card

the stamp set is from Gina K Designs, I will put a "Happy Mother's Day" sentiment on the inside.

Another nice sketch that can be used to do a little mass producing!

Hope everyone has a good week and for those of you that have a snow storm in your future (this week) stay safe, warm and dry!

Continued Stamp set usage - Lots of Thoughts

I started out trying to go through the alphabet of my Stampin Up set, but from time to time I get diverted.  Mostly because of making cards for OWH that tend to be focused on holidays.   Here is a card that I made using Lots of Thoughts.  A very nice stamp set.   I have to say that I'm enjoying dusting off some of these sets.  I have so many nice sets and I need to stop (yes, I said STOP) buying new and use what I have...

So here is my card that I made

this layout was from a blog here I love these layouts and there sure do make card making easy.

Have a great day!

Operation Write Home Sketch #161

Details on the sketch can be found here

Here is my card

this is an old Hero Arts stamp and a cheap sentiment stamp I got at Michael's.   I don't remember where I got the paper, I'm sure it is a couple of years old.

President's Day VCMP things with wheels

The blog hop post is here

So here is my entry

I also used Sketch 117 from Operation Write Home that was mentioned in today's Design Boot Camp learning about focal points.

One card and two entries to blog posts!!!

Oh, and I did use my Stamp-a-ma-jig on the letters but it was an afterthought and the focal point is raised, so it caused a little bit of an issue with the line up. Obviously I want the Mustang to be the focal point

I've come to realize that I don't have any stamps (large) that are for Father's Day.  I have some coupons that I may have to use to make Father's Day cards.

Happy President's Day!

Operation Write Home Sketch #160

Here is the sketch for this week

and here is my card.  I'm making this for a friend that is finishing up her treatments this week for breast cancer.  She likes this saying so I decided to make a card and then decided to use it for this challenge.

the paper is a 6x6 My Mind's Eye paper pack from Michael's.  The off white base is Bazzill Walnut Cream.

The hardest part of this card was creating the saying in a word processing program and getting it spaced how the original is.

I really like this layout and it's perfect for those paper pads!

For those of you that have tomorrow off for President's Day, have a great day!
