Memorial Day Blog Hop for Operation Write Home!

A wonderful tradition for this patriotic holiday!!

So the from the OWH website were as follows:

Bloghop theme: Make a red, white, and blue card in one of the themes below, and we hope you’ll use one of our OWH sketches. We’ll be offering a little prize for a randomly selected card in each category:
  • Love cards
  • Missing you cards
  • Thank you cards
  • Birthday cards
  • AnyHero cards with notes inside written TO them!

I wanted to do a card for each category, so started with the easiest thing to do for the red/white/blue theme, the AnyHero card.

This little gal is "Saluting Marci" from La La Land Crafts.   You can find their catalog of all their stamps here

I used one of the Operation Write Home sketches (#79) and embellished a little by flipping it and using a strip of striped paper instead of the individual strips.

Card #2 is from OWH Sketch #165

and my "Thinking of You Card"

(and of course, I realize it was suppose to be missing you, not thinking of you!  ARGH!!)

My birthday card submission has no sketch, and unfortunately is a little messy, when it comes to my inky fingers....... and the clock was ticking, so I went with it and will redo at a later date.

For my "love" card, I decided to crazy with hearts and use my "under-used" heart embossing folder.

The details for Sketch 109

and my card

after I made the card, I thought I should have used my star embossing folder, but it is suppose to be a love card, right???

And my final card is done with this OWH Sketch

And my card

Hope everyone is enjoying the hop and have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend.

OWH #218

What a frustrating post this has been.  Last week no problems, this week a problem.  It seem that my browser is not supported.  It seems that I have IE 11 and "blogger" doesn't support it. So I thought about downloading another browser to my desktop and decided to use my laptop....  then I get the dreaded XP support ends on April 8th..... stop with the insanity!!!

I searched a couple of the forums for assistance and it seems that other people are having the same problem with IE 11 and their blog (adding images either from on line albums or directly from the hard drive)..... so guess I will wait, they will figure it out at some point and it will work again.  I'll worry about the XP issue another day.

***Update****

I uninstalled IE 11 and I can add pictures now!!

Anyway, so here are the details for the sketch:

and my card, I don't know where the paper came from, it's pretty thin, so I"m guessing it is from Joann's or Michaels.  The image is Bugaboo as well as the sentiment.

I will put a Happy Birthday sentiment on the inside.

Have a great week!!

OWH Sketch #217

Happy Monday!!  And it's time for another OWH Sunday sketch... #217.

Here are the details!

and my submission, a Father's Day card

The designer paper is Karen Foster "Fishing Gear" and the other papers are a variety of brands.
The stamp is Hambo Stamps "Fisherman" and I think the sentiment is Hambo as well.  I decided not to color the image, but I think I might get my colored pencils out and do a little coloring.

Have a super week!!

OWH Sketch 216

Another Sunday and I had some time to participate in this sketch.

Here are the details for the sketch

For my card I decided to begin working on Father's Day card.  I'm working on a box to send out to finish up a "western/cowboy" challenge and a few more Mother's Day cards.

The designer paper is My Mind's Eye Indie Chic "Nutmeg", and decided to use chevron as  theme.  I had the embossing folder and decided to pair that up with the chevron paper.

I will stamp Happy Father's Day on the inside.

Have a great week!

OWH Sketch #214

Another OWH Sunday sketch!!   More snow today and then a break and this evening it is snowing again.  It will be another morning of shoveling before we head off to work.

Here is the sketch:

and my card

The paper is Stampin Up! (base is Very vanilla and the first layer is Pool Party).  The designer paper is October Afternoon "Modern Homemaker".   The ribbon is from Joann's.

I'm not sure what stamp set the sentiment came from (manufacturer) ... it was a clear stamp though!

Hope everyone is safe and warm....

OWH Sketch #212

Another Sunday Sketch (#212) from OWH, and I can participate!   I'm watching Olympics and catching up on the shows I have on the DVR.  Amazing how quickly you can fall behind!

This the sketch details

and here is my card.

I dusted off some Nestabilities pennants, which worked out perfect for this sketch.  The paper is Stampin Up! crumb cake for the base, the patterned paper is a 6x6 pack from My Mind's Eye called "Love Me".   You can just barely see that the top (2" x 5-1/4") is a sheet that just has love, love, love written all over it.  It's perfect for a card that I wanted to be about love.  The sentiments are from an OWH set from Hero Arts "Year Round Sentiments"

I curled up the pennants just  a little to stand out....a very simple card but I'm pleased with how it came out.

Happy crafting!!

OWH Sketch #210 and Card Bowl 2014

Today is Sunday which means another Sketch from Operation Write Home.  I've missed a few sketches for many, many reasons too numerous to mention, but here are the details of the sketch

and here is my card

I have lots and lots of stamps...... and I just had a conversation with a very good friend that I need to probably take a step back from buying "new" stamps and try to concentrate on what I have.  I need to either decide that I love a set enough to keep it, or let it go because I haven't used it (at all) or rarely.  This is a Stampin Up! set (Lots of Thoughts) that I rarely used.  The stamp has the "note of love" that you see there, and under it "with all my heart, hugs and kisses, happily every after".  So I stamped it and cut out the "note of love" to affix on the front. Anyway, I think this goes in the "keep" pile.

The paper is a 6x6 My Mind's Eye paper pad "The Station", something I picked up a Michael's ages ago.

I'm going to continue to craft during the game....... and why?  Cause I wanna win more stuff!  Crazy isn't it?

Card Bowl 2014

Check this out card making fans!!  Operation Write Home is having a Card Bowl

http://operationwritehome.org/card-bowl-2014/

So my card for this submission is usin the Seattle Seahawks colors, Bazill (Parakeet) and Co'ordination (Eggplant). The stamp in Stampin Up! (Sail Away) and I used an embossing folder from Cuttlebug (Anchors Aweigh). When I think of Seattle I think of water! Thus the nautical theme card, and decided to make it a "thinking of you card" (Stampin Up! Teeny Tiny Wishes).

This is actually a 3 part challenge for this weekend of fun and the chance to win more craft stuff!!

Enjoy the weekend, here in Indiana it is raining, which is okay, it melting all the snow.....if you look behind the card you can see a little of our back yard. Snow is heading our away again, so hopefully we can get the old stuff gone to make way for new.

OWH #205A

LOL!!  Well, I decided to start my resolution early and make a fall/Thanksgiving card with the sketch.   I need to check my cutter (or my eyesight), cause I swear I measured it correctly, but for some reason I ended up with a little white area between the pieces.

This is old Stampin Up designer paper, that I love.  I have one sheet of it and I treasure it.  Crazy how we feel that way about paper, isn't it?  Oh, and I used some  Core'dination paper with an embossing  folder and sanded paper for the first time!!  I think I like the look and need to play around a little more with this technique.

Here is the sketch (again)

and my card

Again, have a safe and happy evening.... and of course, here is hoping that 2014 is our best year ever!

OWH #205

Crazy how time flies!! I can't believe how long it has been that I have posted something for a sketch! Now that the holidays are winding down (including the pressure for cards), I hope I can play along with the sketches.

As I mentioned on one of my Facebook posts, I'm trying to figure out a way to "maximize" my creativity.  I came up with the idea of taking a sketch like this, and making one card for each category.  So I can check off the "Thinking of You" card for this sketch, but need to make one for Birthday, Love, Halloween, Thanksgiving etc.  I'm not good at math, so I have no idea how many cards that would make BUT I think it will be my challenge, knowing that it will be hard to do, but I have to start someplace. So I can have fun with the sketches and get my cards done!!

Here is the sketch

And my submission for the challenge!!

Recognize the sentiment stamp!?? Yes it is one of the OWH (Hero Arts) sets I picked up at Michael's awhile ago.   The designer paper is all from a paper pack MME (My Mind's Eye) "Breeze".  Another find at "Mike's" awhile back and a 40% coupon made it "sweet"!!

Happy New Year to everyone!!

Operation Write Home World Card Making Day 2013 Bloghop

Who knew there was such a day!!  Card makers do!!!

We were asked to make a thank you based on one of the OWH sketches.  Did you know that OWH is one of the few blogs that has measurements with their sketches! It's perfect for someone like me who is challenged when it comes to sketches.

My card is based on this sketch

I used a little artistic license and did not use the 2.75 x .7 square, but used instead a punch combination from Stampin Up!

Here is the result

OWH Sketch #192

It has been awhile since I have been able to create AND post a card but decided to do so this weekend.  I am going to take part in the World Card Making Day bloghop for Operation Write Home so I needed to work on getting that completed and scheduled for the weekend.

It is also raining here in Central Indiana, a much needed rain, so what better thing to do then create a card or two! Here is the info regarding the bloghop, I'm sure it will be a busy day with lots of great ideas, cards and probably some prizes too!!

But let's get to the Sunday Sketch Challenge!

Here is sketch #192

and my submission for this sketch.  The stamp is from Hero Arts and the sentiment is from a Stampin Up set.

I used an embossing folder for the strip on the side and also used Glossy Accents on the colored portion of the image, although you can't really tell it.

I love the sketches from OWH because they give you the sizes, I don't have to try and guess or think about it.

Enjoy your week and I hope that you are able to check out the bloghop this coming weekend for World Card Making Day.

Labor Day Weekend Virtual Party Challenge #4

This long weekend is a Virtual Cardmaking party at OWH (Operation Write Home).  I'm so far behind on the challenges, but hope to get caught up at some point... I'm coming in on challenge # 5 using this sketch:

The challenge is to use this sketch for a love card

and here is my submission... I flipped the card

this is a Penny Black stamp (Brimming with Love).   I used designer pager from Cosmo Cricket "Tea for Two" and also Rose Red paper from Stampin Up!.  The sentiment is from My Favorite Things and I used one of the die-namics from MFT to cut the sentiment and then mat it.

I colored the image with my Copic markers... probably should have gotten a closer shot....

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!!

Happy Stamping!!

OWH Sketch #186

Wow, it's been awhile since I have posted.  Things have been busy at work and then with my family.  My mom has been in an assisted living place for a month now and seems to be adjusting very well.  In fact, our twice a week phone calls are sometimes delayed because when I call she is "out and about" with her friends.  I'm feeling so much better about moving her there.  It was rough, but she seems to enjoy the food and having people around here on a regular basis.

So on to the sketch!!    Here is the sketch

and my submission, I tried to keep the 2.75 x 2.25 on the simple side, I think I accomplished that!

Have a great week and I hope to get back to participating in OWH sketches and other activities!

OWH Sketch Challenge #181

It's been awhile since I've posted, I have been busy making cards as well as trying situate  my 92 year old mother in an assisted living facility.  She didn't go quite "kicking and screaming" but screaming and crying.... which I have to say is very difficult to stay the course when you know that it is for their safety and well being.   My mother is stubborn and despite the attempt to show her how to use the "call button" for assistance at 3 am to use the bathroom (or anytime for that matter), she took a tumble and is spending the night at hospital for observation. I'm sure the facility will now put out the big guns (sensors on the bed) to  make sure that they know she is attempting to get out of bed.

So anyway, my card making has been a nice diversion, and I have tried to work on the holiday themed cards to get my box done early.

Here is the sketch for OWH #181

And my submission

I apologize for the "crookedness" of this card.  The designer paper is Bo Bunny Apple Cider Collection.  I'm sure this is old, but I will call it "vintage" designer paper.  The turkey and the sentiment are both from the Hero Arts, I found a place that had it for sale just so you can see what other images are in this set, find it here

I may add the gobble gobble on there someplace, but that is the basic sketch...

Have a great week!

OWH Sketch Challenge #179

Happy July!  I can't believe how the time is flying.  I had a great weekend making cards.  My hubby worked all weekend, so I spent my time working on Thanksgiving cards!!  Yup, my Halloween are done, so I want to get a box off soon and wanted to include Thanksgiving.

So here is the sketch challenge

and here is my submission

After taking the picture, I realized that I should have made the sentiment on a different color than I did. It kinda blended into the paper, not quite what I had planned.

The stamp is "Sweet Herbs" an ancient (obvioulsy retired) set from Stampin Up!  The paper (plain cardstock) is Stampin Up!  The designer paper is Cosmo Cricket from the "Earth Love" 6x6 pad.   Notice the little dots in the left hand corner? Those are new "candy" dots from SU!  I think I'm in love with them.  I will need to get all the colors.

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. My husband and I have a tradition of watching  the movie 1776.  It's a great musical about our founding fathers.  It's a very fun movie.   If you have a chance rent the movie. I hope you like it as much as we do!

Have a happy and safe 4th of July!!  God Bless America!!!

Color Throwdown #247

I saw these colors and just had to participate plus there is/was another challenge that I wanted to do for OWH (Operation Write Home) that involved a water challenge.
So for starters, here is the color challenge information:

and here is my submission which unfortunately is too late, but oh well!! .  I just love the patriotic colors.

the stamp is from MFT (My Favorite Things) (Flopsey Smooth Sailing) and of course the paper is all SU including the water (note to self: by a "wave" die) which is SU Bashful Blue. The inside I simply stamp "count the waves" (to answer the statement on the front "If You Want to Know How Much I Love You".

As I mentioned earlier this card is for OWH challenge, Our Daily Bread June Challenge (for details click on this link and I also used Sketch 74 from OWH, and here is that sketch.

So, two posts in one day from me is pretty crazy..... but I have been behind a little in my card making!!

Have a great day!

Joanie

OWH Sketch Challenge #178

Time sure is flying isn't it?   June is almost over and the 4th of July holiday is just around the corner.

Here is the sketch challenge details

Here is my submission for Sketch Challenge #178, I flipped the card, to make it work with the sentiment I wanted to use.  I have had this Taylored Expression sentiment for quite sometime and decided to use it for this challenge.

The designer paper is all from a 12x12 pad from Michael's (Recollections) have no idea how old it is... my guess is that it is ... old... LOL
